Keeping Winter Out And Warmth In

Keeping Winter Out

Well, it looks like the time of snow and ice is finally upon Waterloo Region. With the coming months sure to be chilly, now is the time to make sure your home is prepared for flurries and squalls. Staying warm and safe is top priority, especially in the comfort of your own home.

A working heating system is perhaps the most important thing for those living in our area, so be sure to have your furnace checked by a professional. Also, don’t forget to check your windows and doors for leaks, as precious heat could be seeping out and the cold sneaking in. Also, make sure to check your pipes and confirm that they are insulated; No one wants a pipe to burst in the dead of winter.

With snow capped roofs soon to be the norm, make sure your roof is in tiptop shape to prevent any leaks. This is also the time to make sure your gutters are completely clear, as buildup can cause leakage as well.

Don’t wait until the last minute and be sure to grab a shovel, some salt, and a snow brush. Nothing is worse than opening the door and realizing the snow has got you trapped, so be sure to always bring the shovel indoors after use; We all know it doesn’t take long for snow to pile up.

The change from chilly to frozen is a surprisingly abrupt one, so make sure to get ahead of the game before it’s truly a winter wonderland.
