Exploring Elora

The Waterloo Region is full of great places to explore, but if you're craving a day trip that combines small-town charm, seasonal festivities, and scenic beauty, look no further than Elora. Just a short half an hour drive from the tri-cities, Elora is a must-visit destination, especially in the fall, when the town truly comes to life with colour, warmth, and cozy vibes.

A Village Steeped in Character

Famous for its historic architecture and riverside views, Elora has a unique charm that sets it apart from other small towns. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by gorgeous 19th-century stone buildings, quaint boutiques, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and explore every corner. October is the perfect time to visit, as the fall foliage adds an extra layer of magic to the already-picturesque streets.

A Hidden Gem: Fieldstone Barn

If you’re a fan of vintage décor, rustic style, or one-of-a-kind finds, Fieldstone Barn should be high on your list. Located just outside the main village, this cozy boutique offers a curated selection of home goods, antiques, handmade pieces, and seasonal treasures year-round.

In October, Fieldstone Barn is filled with warm autumn tones, dried florals, and plenty of festive inspiration for your home. Not only that, check out their Farm Festival and Artisan Market October 18th and 19th, wherein you can shop amongst 30 artisans with plenty of family friendly activities for all-ages. Whether you're shopping for unique gifts or just looking to soak up the rustic fall atmosphere, this hidden gem is well worth the short detour.

Get Spooky with Monster Month

While Elora is charming year-round, October brings a unique event that truly sets the village apart: Monster Month.

All month long, Elora transforms into a Halloween lover’s dream, with whimsical and spooky monster sculptures popping up throughout the town. Created by local artists such as Tim Murton, these monsters are part of the annual Twilight Zoo, a beloved tradition that’s fun for all ages.

Keep an eye out for them peeking from alleyways, towering over rooftops, or hanging out by the river. Starting October 3rd with “The Awakening”, Monster Month is chock full of activities including a number of family-friendly events, such as live performances, the Magic Festival on October 3rd, and the much-anticipated Monster March; a lively, spooky celebratory parade that brings the whole community together on October 18th.

Explore the Village

After visiting the monsters, take some time to stroll through Elora’s walkable downtown. You’ll find local coffee shops, art galleries, bakeries, and independent boutiques offering everything from handmade jewelry to artisan soaps. The village is also home to some fantastic restaurants and pubs, many with cozy patios perfect for enjoying a warm drink or hearty fall meal. Check out the Lost and Found Café for a perfect cup of coffee or the Elora Brewing Company for delish craft beers and casual eats!

If you're feeling adventurous, take a walk down to Elora Gorge Conservation Area, where you can enjoy scenic views of the river, limestone cliffs, and the stunning changing leaves. It’s a great way to end your visit on a high note.

Whether you're hunting for antiques, looking for seasonal inspiration, or just want to enjoy a crisp autumn day, Elora is the perfect October destination. With a blend of natural beauty, artistic flair, and small-town warmth, it offers a refreshing change of pace from the city.
