With the final month of summer finally here and the school year a mere 4 weeks away, it can be tough to find ways to have fun with the kids. That being said, our libraries aren’t merely spots just to grab books, in fact, they run some of the best family-friendly events around. Let’s check out the fantastic events and activities planned by our region's wonderful libraries!
For those in Waterloo, the Waterloo Public Library is a must-see! For art lovers, check out the local artist Trevor Clare’s exhibit running throughout August at the John M. Harper Branch. For night owls, check out the Uptown Night Market at the Waterloo Public Library Main branch running every Thursday evening for music and programming. For those with little ones starting Kindergarten this fall, the library has various Transition to Kindergarten programs. These are just a few examples of the ample activities run by the WPL throughout the month of August!
For Kitchener natives, the Kitchener Public Library has events galore with something happening nearly every day of the month. For families, check out the Summer Stories in various parks throughout the city or the Summer Family Movies for enjoyable family fun! For those with not-so-little ones, check out the various teen and tween events, such as the Board and Card Game Night at the Pioneer Park Library or the Teen and Tween Makerspace Hangout running every Wednesday at the Central Library. KPL runs events for those of all ages, so don’t hesitate to peek at activities for Mum and Dad as well!
For Cambridge residents, Idea Exchange also runs numerous events and activities for those of all ages and interests. For little ones, check out the weekly Totstime or Explore on the Floor, both great ways to stimulate your kiddo's senses and encourage social relationships. For kids of all ages, check out their reptile event Sciensational Sssnakes! Event on August 8th or the Discovering Dinosaurs event on August 14th. For teens, the libraries run a myriad of crafting and science activities, from learning to use a Cricut to DIY pencil cases to a Murder Mystery Night.
